Abstract
A case of pancreatic cystadenoma surgically treated at St. Paul¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College is presented.
Pancreatic cystadenoma is a very rare disease which has not been so far reported in medical literature in Korea. It is known primarily as a disease of middle-aged women characterized by a slow growing palpable mass in thezepigastrium which is often the sole diagnostic finding.
The present case was a 29-year-old -Korean housewife admitted to the Hospital with the complaint of vague abdominal discomfort and the discovery of a slow-growing palpable mass in the epigastrium for the preceding 3 years dosed. Exploratory a hard nodular, base-fixed and multiloculated cystic mass laparatomy with the grapecluster appearance, about 20X7X6cm in size spread over the entire pancreatic region. .
During dissection and mobilization of this cystic mass, the risk of damaging the vital structures such as portal vein, superior mesenteric vessels, venal cava and distal common bile duct, left no alternative but to perform a partial resection of the cystic mass at the neck portion of pancreas.
Grossly, the cut surface of the specimen showed, honey-combed appearance with closely packed cysts of various size containing clear, turbid or serosanguineous fluid. Histopathological diagnosis of the specimen revealed the cystadenoma of pancreas.
